We tried to make it a little "news"-ier. Most of it is still a default Ning theme, and members are still more than welcome to set their own theme on their page. You can even edit the CSS of a theme to make it your own.
Publish2 has gotten a lot better recently - then again, I'm bias (an advisor). But they've been putting in a lot of cool new features and streamlining it all.
Will there eventually be a way to integrate links saved on Publish2 with my page? I tried dropping a Publish2 custom widget in the text box, but it didn't take the javascript.
Otherwise, I like what I see. I think the emphasis on curated information (like The Big Story) will move this away from just-another-social-network territory.
Hey Andrew -- Try pasting any standard P2 widget code into the textbox on your profile page. I've got my links running in the "What I'm Reading" box here: http://www.wiredjournalists.com/profile/RyanSholin
And you've got the right idea -- we're going to be building Publish2 Newsgroups for things like tutorials, tools, and other topics as news breaks!
Ryan, I have the same problem as Andrew -- when I take the widget code from my P2 links page and put it in the textbox on my profile page, I don't get a list of my links (as in the widget preview); I get a hyperlink line that says "More of Scott Blanchard's links." Any ideas?
Ryan looks very good. I strongly prefer white backgrounds (I have eye issues). I think the Publish2 integration is the best step forward. Wired Journalists needed people to get paid to work on the site. It's too much for an all-volunteer staff in an industry like ours.
