Wired Journalists

A Publish2 network

Hello all,

I'm helping to organize the upcoming Online News Association conference in DC, Sept. 11-13.

This year we're hoping to focus on skill-building, community, and the future, instead of worrying about the state of the industry (though that is on everyone's minds).

We're also want to be more inclusive of bloggers and journalists in all media, not just those from newspapers and big operations.

The conference board has just started to lay the groundwork. If you want to help, let me know.

Meanwhile, I'd like your insight into what makes a conference — any conference, doesn't have to be journalism-specific — worth your while.

What was the most memorable conference you've been to and why was it great?

How did you keep updated on events leading up to (and during) the conference?

What sorts of ideas and experiences stuck with you after you left?

TIA,
Chrys

Have you ever been to an IRE Conference? I've been to several journalism conferences, but the IRE Conference - which is held each summer - has been one of the best. I think the perfect conference combines a variety of workshop topics - ones that people can choose from instead of being forced to sit through something that doesn't interest them. I also think networking opportunities, question and answer sessions, roundtable discussions and a main keynote speaker about a certain topic tie together a conference and gives attendees a lot to look forward to and a lot to do. If you have something that is hands-on, that's a plus as well - such as a hands-on demonstration.

Thanks for your thoughts, Shannan.

What makes the IRE Conference different from others you've attended?
