We are testing out the new iPhone for various applications, as a reporting tool, especially to relay breaking news quickly, but also as a video, photo tool. Check this out, shot entirely with an iPhone and later edited in Final Cut. But all clips could have been emailed immediately after shooting to anyone:

Made several mistakes and the audio levels are a bit tricky, but it was very simple to deal with, quick, small and portable, nice tool to have.

For those of you who want to do video but have little time and little budget and maybe don't fully understand yet why you would want to -- there are plenty of reasons for and against -- this is for you. I know we all like to produce/watch high quality video or multimedia, but weighing that against frequency is always a challenge. It’s hard to build a community of viewership online when your content is only published once every two weeks or even a month or several months. We've been trying to create workflows that are sustainable but still offer a range of content that doesn't suck, because no one wants that on their site and no one wants to watch it either. But, there is a lot of gray where "good enough" is sometimes a good place to start.

It was shot on a consumer point and shoot camera -- Canon SD1200 is $180 -- and edited in Final Cut Express $200 (We have tried Pro and determined that, for the money, Express does nearly everything most websites would ever need. Granted Pro is nice, but it is not a must have.) From start to finish, this was completed in about 30 minutes after shooting the assignment for daily newsprint and web publication. So not a lot of time resources. For those of you who want to explore creating an audience for video, or even to use it as another tool to tell your stories, this is an ideal system that won't kill your budget. Then, if you ant to expand, try more elaborate cameras, better editing software, and create a solid plan for video production, you'll be that much farther.

We also do more involved, polished projects like this:

This took expensive cameras, wireless audio, good mics, etc., and a lot of trial and error figuring out the details, and we still have a long way to go. This was shot with two Sony HD1080i cameras in 4x3 mode (non HD) and edited in Final Cut Express.

OK, so I'm expanding my skill set and looking for advice. Any tips on where to start (like a Web site, etc., to just open my brain up more beyond picas and proportion wheels ... and yes, I'm beyond those tools yet old enough to remember using them). Thanks. Joe

Hi, is anybody using the Zoom H2 handy recorder for audio? What kind of experiences did you make using it?
