I am chair of the Communication Studies Department at Gardner-Webb University in Boiling Springs, N.C. I received my B.S. in Journalism from the University of Washington, my M.A. in Journalism from the University of Memphis and my Ph.D. from Regent University. My dissertation examined the working relationships of photojournalists and writers in the newsroom.
Prior to entering academia, I was a photojournalist, writer and editor. My work has appeared in the Washington Post, San Francisco Chronicle, St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Ft. Worth Star-Telegram, Dallas Times Herald, Chronicle of Higher Education, Commission, OnMission, Christianity Today and Charisma. I am still an active photojournalist.
I am the director of NPPA Region 6 and currently serve as Board Representative on the Executive Committee. I am a board member of Christians in Photojournalism and co-direct the Southwestern Photojournalism Conference.
I am married to to my beautiful wife Sharon and we have three children -- Brittany, Hannah, and A.J.
