- While studying at the Medill school of journalism I got excited about the idea of starting a metro news site that wasn't beholden to 100 years of precedent and infrastructure. 5 months ago I started WindyCitizen.com looking to cover Chicago using the new tools available to us. Phase 1 was to recruit bloggers. Phase 2 is setting up a social news section a la reddit and Digg. I'm here on Wired Journalists looking for feedback, criticism, support and maybe even some help getting the startup going.

Hey Wired Journalists,
I wanted to write with an update about WindyCitizen.com, my local news startup in Chicago.
We've recently redesigned the site to focus on giving Chicagoans a place to rate, share and discuss links to local blogs, photos, videos and mainstream news.
The response has been tremendous. New people are joining up and we're getting dozens of submissions from all across Chicago each day.

WindyCitizen.com - Building a social, blog-backed news service for Chicago
Hi all,
I'm a journalist in Chicago who decided to strike out on his own after finishing grad school at Northwestern in March. My idea was to create a metro news service that would point people to the best Chicago news, photos, blogs and video while also giving local voices a platform for original reporting and commentary.
WindyCitizen.com is the result. We've got about 30 bloggers writing about local fashion, sports, news, disability issues and so on.… Continue
