News Organization: The Gazette of Colorado Springs

Bio: I cover the health beat in Colorado's Pikes Peak region, a 600,000-population area about an hour south of Denver. Before coming to The Gazette, I was an assignment editor at a small daily newspaper in the mountains of Southwest Colorado.
Outside the newsroom I love the usual assortment of Colorado activities: camping, skiing, hiking and weekend mountaineering. I also play volleyball and recently took up ice hockey. I'm nearing completion of a suspense novel.

Staying viable

OK, so this blogging, texting, social networking stuff appears to be here to stay. Now that I'm over my denial, it's time to get up to speed and use it. I'm searching for ways technology will help me be a better journalist without wasting valuable reporting/writing time playing around on the computer. Any thoughts on striking that balance?
