I got into the Internet back in the fall of '95 after an inspiring speech on the future of the Web that I heard at the Internet World trade show in Boston. My career has followed the digital highway ever since. I was the leader of a sales and development team for the first Cape Cod web portal - Virtual Cape Cod which went live on New Years Day 1996. My role with Virtual Cape Cod spanned both business development and online journalism. After leaving this startup I went on to be part of a number of Cape Cod based Internet projects including the NetSurfer Internet Kiosk and the award winning CapeCodOnline.com portal site of the Cape Cod Times.
Participatory media and online community development activity is something that I am very interested in and my consulting work has been instrumental in a number of private label projects. My day job is on the business side of online media but I spend my personal time immersed in online journalism projects.
ProvincetownLive.com is a Hyperlocal community site focused on the fascinating seaport village of Provincetown on Cape Cod Massachusetts. This prototype site served as an inspiration for the implementation of social media tools during my time at Lee Enterprises heading up online audience development.
I am an avid writer and commenter on blogs and have been working on video related projects recently.
Hi George! Always great to hear from a fellow Greek journalist—in Massachusetts no less. I've yet to meet Howard in person, he's become a bit of a celebrity it seems!
