A group to discuss Web site content management systems from Ellington to Drupal to College Publisher to Expression Engine to Town News and everything else. What do you use? How is it working out for you? What would be your ideal CMS?
Databases, map mashups, oh my! Suggestions/recommendations those with limited knowledge and who want to learn more. Please share tips, links, resources, good examples, funny stories, etc.
I understand why the XML import sounds so attractive to many college news orgs, but I think it represents a step backwards. I don't think college media should be shoveling (automatically or manually) your print edition online. Ideally,I think the ...
The e-mail notice for the latest comment reminded me about this post. As a follow-up, The Hurricane ended up using WordPress and it's been very successful. There has been some more Drupal news in the college realm in the past year, with orgs such...
from little that i have read and understood, both drupal and joomla are more of the less the best open source cms we journalists could use. to be frank, i am struggling to understand the installation part of joomla.. but i will get there! there ar...
My friend Jonny just got back from D.C., where he spent a week at DrupalCon. He said The Economist and several other big media sites are going Drupal. I use Drupal. I'm of the belief that it's becoming the open source standard.
Iam quite new here so I've not yet had time to browse the whole mail, but from the first mails I read I feel that maybe some of you should try Joomla. Iam using it in all my sites (personal site and two online spaces, for photography and videogame...
I am in the market for a new CMS. My most recent experience was with Drupal, and it had it's good and its bad moments. In my new role, the community building features that make Drupal appealing aren't that important. The organization isn't all tha...

Great job on your SPJ feature!

I was never a member in college. I can see what a great resource it is for budding journos. In the same token, the School of Communication and The Hurricane didn't have a formal relationship when I worked there, either. (Aside from a faculty advisor.) I always thought that was beyond dumb.

Glad to see things better integrated.

The Miami Herald was where young talent went to get experience back in the day. Sounds like nothing has changed in that respect.

Yeah, I picked out the afternoon sessions I wanted to go to, but deadline (always busy on Wednesday) ruined those plans. I'm actually still dealing with a possible printing issue, at least from my dorm now--oy. Sundays are quiet and easy by comparison.

I was able to catch part of a few events in the auditorium by watching the live webcast. I also checked in with Twitter a few times.

I've been thinking about sending a proposal for the challenge, we shall see what scheme I can formulate...

The rest of the sessions were good. I feel VERY stimulated. Lots of good conversations. I wish I had more time to live-tweet it. You would have liked the one on the Knight News Challenge - if you haven't applied before - you should

Yes, Canes must stick together. Not to presume anything, but if you need any advice on breaking into the Newspaper biz, I was a reporter at Newsday for 11 years and was hired right out of college.

I guess the $30 per issue did pay off. Thank you Miami Hurricane!

Hey Greg! I am really glad you found me! It makes me too happy to know where my high-school newsroom is :) I have to tell you that I went to your blog when I got your comment and I loved it! You are doing a great job. Keep it up because I will follow any advice you put up there.
Oh, don't even get me started on Spain, and El Pais and how fantastic the whole experience was. I absolutely fell in love with that newsroom, the journalists, the city and the publication itself. I will be too lucky If I have the chance to work for them.
I am very surprised that you visited El Pais! Where else did you go during that trip? Well, where else have you gone on any trip? Let me know!
