Prioritize

At last...

I spent this last year perfecting my AP grammar and style when writing, and recently earned my master's degree in journalism. It's a good feeling, but now I need a job. I didn't have much time to blog in the last few months, but I have realized that I need to get my priorities straight.

Natural disasters, bickering politicians and the declining economy have thoroughly depressed me, but indeed have motivated me to become reconnected with the world of blogging.

The economy is my outl… Continue

A-Rod v. Jose

All this steroid talk from Jose Canseco about Alex Rodriguez has given me another reason to turn the news off at night. These baseball players have no private lives as it is, without fellow (former) players smearing their names through the mud. It was draining enough to follow the step-by-step process that Roger Clemens went through in his performance enhancers case...now this.

I have to say though, my media law class has allowed me to look at this situation through a new perspective. A-Rod is… Continue

Potential Employers

Is there anyone in the Charlotte area? I'm looking to relocate once I'm done with school, but am facing a few challenges with finding media-related openings in the south. In other words: "I really don't be… Continue

Stay in school...

I worked in an office as a workstudy student all four years as an undergrad. Now, as a grad student, I am an office assistant in our Career Development Center. It almost makes me feel old this time of year when undergrads are rushing in to get advice on their resumes and cover letters for job searches. I'm not sure what I would've done differently if I had the chance to change things...but I just told myself, "When in doubt (about a career) stay in school!"

Internship

So, I'm sitting here at the Syracuse newspaper. I am a copy editing intern on the sports' desk, and clearly have time to kill when I just sit here waiting for NBA games to finish. My 6 p.m. to midnight shifts are not the most glamorous hours of my life, but at least it's only twice a week. I'm not sure if struggling at pagination will really benefit me down the road, but at least it's something I can overcome before I even get a real job!
