Mark,

I just got back from UBC with Joseph and interviewed the first student released from custody. I have some photos of the grounds outside as well.

Interested in a story for the Chronicle?

Mark,

I figured out what was wrong with the colours in my blog (with that photo that I just couldn't manage to post properly). I had made some adjustments to it and had saved it as CMYK and not RGB. Anyway, I have adjusted everything. If you ever have a student mix things up in the future tell them to go back and check their settings!

Mark,

This was posted in one of my Flickr group discussions, Hardcore Street Photography: You have to love the boys in blue don't you.

I will try to output the video and see what happens, as I haven't tried that yet.

I'll keep you posted,

Amy:

Depends what you want to do with the web site and how much you feel like learning. It's fairly easy to use WordPress blogging software to build a fairly full-featured website that's easy to maintain. If you want to go all out and learn some HTML and CSS, you can throw yourself into something like Dreamweaver.

As for the grainy photos, are they still grainy when you output the .mov file?

Hello Mark,

Question for you. When you are designing for web, is there a certain program you could suggest?

Also, I am using iMovieHD and beginning to put together an audio slideshow, and for some reason the photos are extremely grainy when I import them - I should mention they are fine otherwise. Do you know why this is happening and/or how to fix it?

I'm glad your combination seems to be working.

I am trying to work on a couple different slide shows. Unfortunately, we don't have access to the recorders and I didn't get any sound. Maybe I can put something else down for the soundtrack.

About the conflict and military-media studies, I think we could bring it up to the class and get a discussion going about it.

Take care!

Hey Mark!

I hope you're not freezing yet!

There is a fellow who has written me wondering if we have a conflict reporting or military-media component to our program. I told him that as far as I knew there is not but that I would pass the query on to you for further discussion.

Have a safe trip!

The work experience thing

Some questions for j-school students and instructors:

Do you offer work experience? Which semester? How long? Does it pay off?

If you don't, why not?

If you've been through a work experience what was the value of it to you?

Feel free to answer any question that I haven't asked if you feel is relevant.

Thanks.

Wired Journalist as resumé extension

We've all heard of potential employers Googling or doing a Facebook check on job applicants. I wonder when net-savvy newspaper hiring folk are going to start plumbing the pages of Wired Journalists? (Maybe they already have.)

It seems to me that this site offers a great way to take a reading on potential hire: profiles, a range of blog posts, comments on various discussion, uploaded videos and photos, and even an individual's group memberships would enable someone to start building a picture of… Continue

Audacity track markers

I've been introducing students to the wonders of Audacity and, as part of that, have created a single-page PDF about how to use a Label Track to mark audio files for editing. It's pretty basic, but if anyone wants a copy let me know by dropping a note into the comments for this post or send me an email (mark at tamark dot ca).
