Nice run down. I haven't been in a collegejourn chat in a while, but I'm sad I missed this one. Sounds like it was awesome.

If your school has access to things like Final Cut Pro too I'd try that. I have had my troubles with iMovie in the past, but maybe I just haven't played with enough myself.

In that case, you probably haven't heard of Colin Mulvaney, either. He was the Spokesman Review's multimedia guru till they downsized (he's still there as a photographer) and runs a great WordPress blog. Here's one of his more relevant posts to he...

"We go out into the internet and try to teach ourselves." Soooo true!! I go to the Internet to get information about absolutely everything. And to tap the resources available from sites like these is one of the most important skills we can develop.

Bio
I'm a sophomore at Drake University studying Magazines and News/Internet, minoring in Studies of Culture and Society. I've done a lot of writing and editing in school already, and the more I learn the more I love it. My favorite thing is interviewing awesome people and learning about their lives and points of view. I don't know exactly what I want to after school, but I'm open to any and all opportunities that come my way.

The wide world of interning

It's been a while since I've been on here. After the freelance project, everything kind of settled down and got back to normal. But it was a huge success! It boosted me into the spotlight both in my J-school and at Drake in general. I won a Top Sophomore award for my involvement, and was recognized at our annual journalism banquet. I submitted it for the Hearst multimedia award (didn't get it, but I wasn't expecting to). And I think it also landed me my internship at Meredith Corp. I'm working a… Continue

Pending success

So I successfully sent out five or six query letters to magazines and newspapers for my green spring break story, and I've heard back from two--almost three. Circle K Magazine (online) is going to pay me $300 for a day-by-day account of my trip, plus several video blogs. I'll also be writing for Utopia of Green Magazine, and vlogging for Urban Ambassadors, although they're not paying at the moment. I heard from the Des Moines Register and the green reporter is going to contact me when she gets b… Continue

Need some freelancing advice!

I have the opportunity to go on an alternative spring break with my school's environmental action league as a "media person." I am STOKED! We're going to Catalina to do a 0-waste sustainable trip, and will be involved in invasive species removal, trail building, and other projects. I'll also be learning a lot about environmental issues and how to be more green.

This is going to be a great opportunity if I can get a multimedia package off the ground. I want to shoot video and video blogs, write… Continue

I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one that feels that way about the internet! You'll have to let me know how the freelancing thing goes. It's something I've been considering...
