This is a group for people who have attended API's Our Readers Are Watching ethics seminars and others who want to discuss journalism ethics, particularly as they apply to the digital marketplace.
I am information content conductor for Gazette Communications in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Somehow I got two profiles on Wired Journalists (happened when I moved from the American Press Institute to Cedar Rapids; obviously a screwup on my part).
I attended the session you lead on storytelling in a multi-media world at Woodstock 2008 a few months ago and I was totally blown away.
I wondered if I could ask your advice on something: I was recently appointed Editor-in-Chief of a group of six B2B technology magazines and a number of related Web sites. I'm trying to figure out how to best prioritize my time but I find the pace much different from when I was managing daily news online and putting out a print magazine. I remember in your Woodstock session you mentioned you don't often attend the daily story meetings because you're focusing on the future, but can you give me a sense of what the day-to-day of an EIC is like at your publication and how you figure out which tasks will deliver the most payback? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
