You know those cool interesting articles that you can publish this week or even wait a year and it doesn't make much difference? This is a group for people who have ideas to share and people looking for ideas to write about.

Hi, Vera.
I noticed your comment about U.S. regional groups. Are you in the "International" group? Maybe a "Europe" group would be better?

Cool. I think all of us being transparent will help make it a better place.

And, fwiw, understandable for people to go by the identity they use elsewhere, but for our group, we think it will help to just be open about who we are, what we do, and what we need or can contribute.

Vera, welcome to WJ.

Wired Journalists is a network of professional (or plan on being professional) journalists.

Part of being professional is tell us who you are.

There's no reason not to use your full, real name in WJ. It will lend credibility to your contributions, provide an avenue for career advancement, and help you understand better what being a wired journalist is all about.

So, please, take a few minutes and update your profile with your full, real name.

Thanks.

local journalism is the future

posted this text on my blog a few days ago but thought it would made sense to post it here as well.

i always thought that internet and globalisation will eventually empower local media. it’s easy to get the latest about the major events on the other side of the world but the easiest it is to access that information, the bigger it is the need for people to get information about their own community (and this doesn’t only apply to a certain geographic area, but rather to any group that shares… Continue

Press Release - Postcrossing reaches 1 million exchanged postcards

Hi everyone,

here's a suggestion of something I think it's worth writing about. I'm pasting the press release below so you all know what I'm talking about.

POSTCROSSING HITS ONE MILLION EXCHANGED POSTCARDS
Project created in 2005 has over 47 000 users from all over the world

Who said the online and the offline world couldn’t co-exist? The Postcrossing project proves they can. Moreover, it proves they should. Created in July 2005 by Paulo Magalhães, the project has now reached a millio… Continue

a matter of ethics

As I was driving to work this morning, I was listening to this debate on the radio and, as it so often happens, I couldn't exactly make up my mind about which side I agreed more with. Maybe you can help me. Here's the situation (I'll try to spare you the boring details):

A journalist is doing some investigation about something a politician did in the past. In order to get some information, he needs to contact some of the members of that party. The t

photo, video and text - there's only so much a person can do at once

I know we all need to adjust ourselves to new times, I know we all should be able to multitask, I know all that. But, sometimes, being a 'multimedia journalist' can be a lot of hard work.

For example, this afternoon I went to the birthday party of a man that turned 100 years old. Sounds like a fun and light thing to do. Yep, it's true. But when you're told to talk to the person and the people around him, take pictures and also shoot a video, it beco
