Wired Journalists

A Publish2 network

Hi everyone -

Here's what's on the agenda:
  • Get the domain wiredjournalists.com pointed at this Ning site.
  • Add a few basic tutorials for journalists who are at ZERO on the Wired Journalist scale.
    • How to start a blog
    • How to use an RSS reader
    • How to start a Facebook group for your beat
    • How to find sources on Twitter
    • How to shoot, edit and upload your first video
    • How to build your first map mashup
    • More...
  • Publicize the site in our own networks and organizations, especially trying to get the URL into the hands of 'non-wired' journalists.
  • Collect pledges, donations, and sponsorships from gear, software, and hardware companies, because we're going to need some prizes to give away.

Ideas? Suggestions? Bring it on.

I can offer a tutorial on tips for making online video look pretty decent, regardless of the equipment someone chooses to use. I have a short list of simple things to watch out for that I usually hand out to reporters and photogs who just staring out with video.

As for the rest, I'll be the one doing the learning.

This is all great. I am getting ready to meet with managers to propose the use of Twitter as part of our web strategy.

Will do, Meranda. The author of that post, Shawn Smith, is here on WJ.

Some of us (I) need more than just how to find sources on Twitter. How about a: what is it?/how it works/how to use it post?

More ideas:

An introduction to Digg and other social bookmarking sites (I think I might have someone recruited for that.)

An introduction to photoblogging, or blogging for photojournalists (Sato?)

Awesome, Andy and Meranda, those sound great.

This isn't listed, but since finding and working your beat online is key, I'll get something together on setting up Google alerts for your beat and finding local blogs/sites to follow.
