What's the best conference you've ever been to?

We've all been to those conferences where we think, "Man, I shoulda saved my money and time."

Rare, it seems, are those conferences that make us excited to go, thrilled to be there and happy that we've got new ideas to bring home and new relationships to nurture.

So I'd love to know: What's the best conference you've ever been to and what made it great?

I have to toss out Online News Association conference. Although I haven't been to too many other conferences and I share Will Sullivan's underwhelmed reaction to the panels (http://www.journerdism.com/index.php/2008/01/13/the-four-best-online-and-multimedia-professional-journalism-groups-the-online-news-association/), it's a great networking venue, and also the place I actually got to meet several journo-bloggers in person. Hopefully this time around they'll invite more people like Steve Rubel and Steve Safran.

I just posted on the group's page that IRE has the best conferences I've been too. I haven't been to the NICAR conference, but since they're run by the same people I'm sure it's just as great!

NICAR. It's not a conference so much as a three-day curriculum. Panels? Sure, but even better, there are actual classes. You learn tons and take more ideas home than you can possibly accomplish. Plus the Blues Bash is a great time.
