We've been producing a daily news webcast for the past 2 months. Basically a scripted update of the upcoming news items usually for that day. I have been shooting and editing the webcast every morning and have tried to include photos and video clips whenever possible. The length has been about 3 minutes. Promotion has been pretty much non-existent. I've posted links via our Twitter feed. Viewership never got past about 60 views per day and in fact have steadily decreased to about 10 a day now.
I still think a daily local webcast can work in our market (town of about 30,000 including the surrounding towns it jumps up to about 50,000.) We are about to pull the plug on the current webcast and our considering switching to a more unscripted, off-the-cuff, out on the street, style of show. Thinking of doing the webcast at different locations around town: coffee shops, book shops, etc. as a way to create a buzz and get the community involved.
Any ideas would be welcomed as well as any comments on the current webcast. Also, any first hand experience from producing this type of show would be great.
