Wired Journalists

A Publish2 network

I'm taking nominations.

In fact, you can join our Beat Blogging newsgroup over at Publish2: http://www.publish2.com/newsgroups/beat-blogging

I'm looking for specific examples of beat reporters innovating on the Web. Know of someone who did a live blog that was really popular? Post a link to our Publish2 group. Know of someone who does two-way communication well? Post a link to our Publish2 group.

I'm on the hunt for these innovative journalists too. I have a couple to point out. Ron Sylvester in Wichita covers his court beat on Twitter, http://twitter.com/rsylvester, and has picked up many new readers and subscribers. I find the posts can be overwhelming, but I really think it worked well during jury selection in a capital trial. I felt like I was in the courtroom.

Closer to home for me, my weekly newspaper's reporter has a Twitter feed and often asks for sources who've been impacted by a storm, had a bike stolen, etc. He's here: http://twitter.com/cubreporter. I value his posts in part because they remind me to check out his paper when it hits the Web each week. I don't like the print version, but can get a good sense of what's going on in the neighborhood in the Web version.

I also really like Etan on Tech out of Orlando: http://blogs.orlandosentinel.com/etan_on_tech/

Check out how Etan aggregated Twitter so that readers comments about the Apple iPhone 3G are featured. He used Widgetbox to pull it all together. I think Etan does a really nice job of blogging, microblogging and engaging his readers.

Try ANY sports reporter. They live blog games, do live chats, podcasts, video, etc...
