I'm Joel Lyons, a graduate of the University of Missouri-Columbia (grad) and Arizona State University (undergrad). I'm the copy editor for the Phoenix and Miami editions of 944, a fashion, entertainment and lifestyle publication. I'm hoping to one day get into an editing position with a music magazine or a magazine that deals with cultural diversity. Preferred locations would be in New York City or San Francisco — two cities my journalism salary will probably have a difficult time affording.
In the meantime, (I think) I'm the official King of Happy Hour in the Phoenix area, attending multiple social events related to journalism, and even plan some of my own (visit http://azmediabuzz.googlepages.com. We're accepting franchise applications.). I'm a member of the National Association of Black Journalists, and locally serve as the secretary for the Arizona Association of Black Journalists (www.azblackjournalists.org). I'm also a former Summer Fellow with the International Radio and Television Society, Inc. (class of 2005; www.irts.org). Please feel free to contact me with any questions. Thanks! Looking forward to networking.

I just signed up for your AZ events. I'm happy to find this ... hope you all don't mind a "newbie" joining in.
